New Pop-Up Boutique For Bishop's Cellar

Photos Courtesy Jenny Gammon We were very kindly invited to a preview of a new Pop-Up Boutique from our friends at Bishop's Cellar .  The main retail space is undergoing some renovations which are scheduled to last about a week but the staff have pulled together some really neat temporary digs just across the courtyard stocked with mostly value wines.  They were working on things right up to the media launch and the end result looks great (though they are making a few tweaks here and for the official opening on Sunday). The business is celebrating 10 years in business this month and have a lot on their plate.  We have had some real perks as wine bloggers and being invited to events like this are one of them.  I was handed a glass of Blomidon Estate's Cremant as soon as I arrived. Wine Review - 2010 Blomidon Estates Baco Noir: Oh Boy....This one is gonna be tough.

So, second night in a row with a local wine. This time it is a new Grape and a new Producer. Blomidon Estates is a winery just outside Canning, NS that produces a variety of wines both red and white.  We have had just about everything they produce and we were excited to try this one as it also comes from the special 2010 vintage. When we tried it at the winery in the Fall it was what we would consider to be a bit young.  So, we decided to buy a bottle and let it 'age' a bit.  We decanted it and gave it some time to open up. The wine is really dark, similar to Malbec and it has a nice look in the glass.  The swirl is really nice and seems to be a lot heavier than the body of the wine.  This is where it gets tough.  The nose is not what we were expecting at all.  It has a bit of fruit but there is a chemical sensation to it.  We were hoping for something a little more smoky but it is really not as warm on the nose as we would like.
