Wine Review - 2010 Blomidon Estates Baco Noir: Oh Boy....This one is gonna be tough.

So, second night in a row with a local wine. This time it is a new Grape and a new Producer.

Blomidon Estates is a winery just outside Canning, NS that produces a variety of wines both red and white.  We have had just about everything they produce and we were excited to try this one as it also comes from the special 2010 vintage.

When we tried it at the winery in the Fall it was what we would consider to be a bit young.  So, we decided to buy a bottle and let it 'age' a bit.  We decanted it and gave it some time to open up.

The wine is really dark, similar to Malbec and it has a nice look in the glass.  The swirl is really nice and seems to be a lot heavier than the body of the wine.  This is where it gets tough.  The nose is not what we were expecting at all.  It has a bit of fruit but there is a chemical sensation to it.  We were hoping for something a little more smoky but it is really not as warm on the nose as we would like.

On the palate we got blackberries but ones that were under-ripe a bit.  We felt the fruit was okay but we found the wine to be a bit thin.  Not surprising per se but we were a little underwhelmed.  We really were hoping for more.  With all the promise of the 2010 vintage and the growing season it just wasn't where we hoped it would be flavour-wise.

   Tasting Notes: Score:
Sight (0-5) Dark wine, Malbec-y.  Nice colour and weight. 4.0
Smell (0-5) A chemical smell overpowers the fruit and oak on the nose. Unfortunately not the best. 3.5
Taste (0-10) A little thin but the fruit keeps the flavour going but it falls off at the end.  We were left wanting more. 7.5
  Total: 15.0 / 20
 (75.0%)

We really would like to get more out of this wine and we would definitely try this again but not overly exciting right now.

Next time maybe.

Keep on drinking!

Chris & Shannon
