Wine Blog Awards 2012 - A Commentary From Folks Who Wish That They Had Attended

We were unable to attend the 2012 Wine Blog Awards in Portland, Oregon this year but that doesn't mean we didn't follow along as best we could with Social Media and the like.  The awards honor Wine Bloggers from around the world as well as giving online wine writers the ability to congregate and chat about the industry in general.

There were a number of Blogs that captured our attention but we wanted to show the list of the winners so we grabbed them from the Wine Blog Awards website (listed below):
The one that stood out for us on the list is the Best Blog Post of the Year from Evan Dawson at the New York Cork Report.  It is worthy of that distinction and once you read it, we hope you will get at least some insight into why we are writing this blog.  Reading Evan's post about why he does it was like the pure definition of how we got here as well.  It is really not about wine solely it is about connection and how wine can help bring all that together.  We don't have his cellar or access to amazing wine but we especially liked his statements about how wine can give you access to a memory, a sense of place, the person you were at that time or a time before you were born (if you are lucky enough to get a bottle that old).  We are greatly paraphrasing of course, but definitely read his post as he deserved the award.  Congrats to Evan.

We have had so many great moments and memories related to wine.  Many of which where we don't even remember what wine we were drinking - but they are awesome memories nonetheless.  We have a few last bottles as well.  The ones gathered on a great day or journey that we don't want to drink because it is almost the completion of moment that we want to preserve.  That is how wine can impact you.  It will solidify memories from great trips, days with friends, family events, and so on.  If you take the time to really focus on what you are drinking during those days that go by, you might want to come back to those times and a great bottle/glass of wine can take you there.

Trust us.

Keep on tasting!

Chris & Shannon

PS - The 2013 Awards will be in British Columbia, Canada next June and if we can work it out we may be there.
