Wine Review - 2013 Mount Monster Cabernet Sauvignon: Tangy Red Wine That Sticks To The Tongue

This wine was on the roster for Mer et Soleil at this year's Port of Wines Festival and we had a chance to try it both freshly opened and with a little time open. Overall, it was a nice drinking wine but definitely develops more when the bottle is open for a while. We would go as far to say it is better to decant this wine to open it up a bit. Bright crimson is the best was to categorize the look and colour of the wine. There are slow legs in the glass on the swirl and it seems to stick to the sides as the wine comes down. It has an oily look to it as well which make you feel like this will be a big wine. The nose hit us with cherry blossoms and violets as the dominant building blocks of the bouquet. Wine Review - 2019 La Mascota Cabernet Sauvignon: Purple, Woody and Delicious

Full disclosure here, we absolutely love La Mascota Wines. They make one of our go-to wines in their Cabernet Franc and their Unanime Red is amazing but this Cabernet Sauvignon is also a standout. We particularly like red with both body and balance and this wine delivers that in spades. As it is an Argentinian wine from the Mendoza it has those notes of a good purple wine. Whether steak or tapas this wine will hold up to bold flavours. It looks like Malbec but definitely smells like Cab Sauv. Sticking your nose in the glass you are immediately hit with violets, toasted oak and blackberries. There is a boldness to the bouquet which doesn't overpower but is strong and consistent even after swirling the wine. The end of that is blueberry jam and leather. The wine is dry but not overly so and the there is a tiny amount of residual sugar which allows for some roundness to the tannins which are firm. Wine Review - 2010 Primal Roots Red: A Big And Bold California Red Blend

We were thinking about having a nice crisp cold white wine tonight but we decided to have some homemade smoked ribs and somehow a crisp white wasn't where we were at. So, we decided to have a red. This is one of the wines we were provided, and so we decided to try this bottle of 2010 Primal Roots Red Blend and thought it might be a nice match. We did not get the chance to decant the wine very much but we dove right in. The wine is extremely dark in the glass. It is made of 43% Merlot, 37% Syrah, and 20% Zinfandel. With those big dark grapes in there it is absolutely no surprise. It is a thicker wine when you swirl it and that also makes sense with the body that those grapes bring to the table. Overall, it is a nice wine to look at in the glass. The nose went from being a little hot on the first immediately opened glass to being a bit softer and more refined on the second so we will focus on that description. If you like big wines,...
