Wine Review - 2012 Les Jamelles Chardonnay Viognier: Candied Lemon Peel With A Bang
This was the very first wine we tried at this year's NSLC Port of Wines Festival. We walked into the space for the VIP tasting and we were handed a taste of this wine. At the time, it was really great. We really like the combination of Chardonnay with Viognier added in because it always seems to add a complexity that elevates both grapes. This wine comes in at 60% Chardonnay and 40% Viognier. It's a great balance between the two. As we would expect, this wine has a golden colour that makes this a very interesting looking wine. It looks like a Fall wine which is perfect. Great clarity and even some softness in the golden hue. The nose has a solid butterscotch and lemon wrapped up with some pear. It is really a unique and interesting smell. The lemon makes it a familiar smell but the butterscotch and pear add a complexity that works. The flavours start with candied lemon peel with a bit of heat applied from the alcohol. ...
